Portable Gas Detector Chargers
Compact Charger Type PGDC4 (Stock No.SS083C)
This is the standard charger that is supplied with each new instrument unless otherwise requested. The Compact Charger is designed to optimize the charging of the battery and minimise the charge time by continuously electronically monitoring the state of charge. When used with these chargers the instrument must be switched off during the charge period. Note that these chargers only make use of two of the three charging pins on the rear of the instrument.
The compact charger is powered by low voltage ac which is supplied from a purpose-designed mains adaptor Stock No. SS116 which is provided with each charger.
5-Way Charger Type PGDC5 (Stock No.SS086)
This charger operates in the same manner as the compact charger but is directly powered from the mains supply via an IEC mains connector.
Vehicle Mounted Charger Type PGDC3 (Stock No.SS076)
This charger is specially designed for use in vehicles where the charging power is derived from the vehicle battery. The charger is designed to optimise the charging of the battery and minimise the charge time by continuously electronically monitoring the state of charge.
The vehicle-mounted charger is primarily designed to be mounted directly onto "Dexion" style louvered panels. By slackening the two M3 screws on the upper of the aluminium mounting bars, the spacing between the bars can be adjusted to suit most types of panel. Tighten the M3 screws, then position the charger on the panel and lock in place by tightening the M6 grub screws (3mm A/F). Other methods of mounting may be used, provided that the charger is mounted vertically.
The charger can operate on either 12V or 24V systems and is not polarity conscious, i.e. the two supply wires can be connected either way round. Note that the supply must be permanently live and not switched by the ignition. A 5 Amp fused supply is recommended. The "Snaplok" splices that are provided with the charger can be used to connect into any existing vehicle wiring where appropriate.
Smart Charger Types PGDC2 and PGDC2/I (Stock No.SS103)
The PGDC2 single instrument 'Smart' charger and PGDC2/I single instrument 'Smart' charger/interface unit are designed to optimise the charging of the battery and minimise the charge time by continuously electronically monitoring the state of charge. When used with these chargers the instrument must be switched off during the charge period.
The PGDC2/I version has an integral RS232 interface which enables it to be used in conjunction with a PC running the purpose designed PGD calibration software in addition to its normal battery charging function. The unit is supplied complete with an RS232 communications lead.
Note that these chargers only make use of two of the three charging pins on the rear of the instrument.
Multi-Volt Charger Type PGDC6 (Stock No.SS075)
The Multi-Volt charger is provided with 2 input connectors so that it can be powered either:-
a). From a mains supply using transformer (Stock No.SS116).
b). From a 12 volt dc power supply (using connection lead Stock No. S117).
Battery Module Charger Adaptor Plate Type PGD/ADT
Rechargeable battery modules may be charged separately from the PGD2 instrument using this adaptor plate. It provides a flexible and economical method of separately charging the PGD2 battery module. The plate can only be used with the single instrument mains powered 'Smart' charger type PGDC2. It locates into the lower section of the charger with the charger pins passing through the cut-out of the adaptor plate. The battery module is first removed from the instrument and then placed into the adaptor and is charged in the same manner as for a complete instrument.
